More than 830 petrol stations across Australia have run dry. You're paying $2.52 a litre for unleaded. $3.04 for diesel. The ACCC has received over 3,000 complaints. The Prime Minister just announced public funds to buy fuel. A minimum wage worker now spends almost a full shift just to fill the car.

The Prime Minister says supply is "secure." The Energy Minister calls it a "national crisis." The Treasurer says cutting excise is "not being considered." Three people. Three different answers. One government.

This didn't happen overnight. It was predicted for a decade. Every expert warned them. Nobody listened. Now they're asking you to pay for it.

I'm proud to be an Australian. I always have been. But right now, I'm closer to being ashamed of this country than I've ever been in my life. Not ashamed of Australians — ashamed of the people running it. I despise what our government has become. Not one party. All of them. They've dragged us through the mud year after year after year and nothing changes. Different faces, same result. We get worse. They get richer. Here's what I want. I want every single politician — every minister, every senator, every backbencher earning $239,000 or more — to go and live a normal Australian life for a week. Not a photo op. Not a 20-minute visit to a factory with cameras rolling. Actually live it. Go and sleep in a shitty rental. Pay rent out of a normal wage. Get a budget — the same budget a truckie or a nurse or a single mum lives on. Fill up the car at $3 a litre and watch the money disappear. Drive a truck for 12 hours. Pack shelves. Work a farm. Help someone carry something. Get your hands dirty. And when the money runs out by Wednesday and you've still got 4 days to go — don't call your office. Don't tap into your investment portfolio. Sit there and feel it. Then come back to Canberra and tell me that cutting excise is 'not being considered.' Some of them say they understand. Some of them say they know what it's like to struggle. But it's hard to believe that from someone earning $400,000 a year with multiple investment properties. You might remember the story. But you don't feel it anymore. And the next day, they've already moved on to something else. I want them to understand that this isn't a news cycle. This is people's lives. Every single day. I am proud to be an Australian. But I'm done being quiet about the people who are supposed to represent us and don't.
